Over the past several years a number of you have had the pleasure of
working with Michael Zee, the owner or the Hong Kong custom tailor "Tak
Tak". Lori and I met Michael when we were at a conference in Hong Kong at
the then Regent (now Intercontinental) hotel. Michael had a shop in the
hotel and we tried the custom tailor thing. The quality was very high and
the prices quite reasonable for such high-quality custom work. For those
who know me, you realize that I have certain deficiencies in the
fashion/wardrobe area (I am a devout customer of Land's End mail order) but
I have found Michael's shirts and pants to actually fit, wear well, and
look great.
Michael does a US tour every summer and visits 15 or so cities. The last
few years I have sent announcements out for this and a number of classmates
have taken advantage of his visits. In fact, a group of us met with him 2
summers ago then all went out to chinatown in Boston for a nice feast and
brought Michael along. Michael has been very appreciative of this
connection with our class and offers classmates a very nice discount on the
work.
Michael's summer tour is later in the summer (July) but we thought it would
be fun to invite him to join us for the reunion. He agreed, and is making a
special trip for us. He will be at the Inn at Harvard over the weekend,
and on Saturday afternoon will be at the Dillon Fieldhouse right before and
during our BBQ lunch (11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.)
If you are interested in meeting Michael, looking at more fabrics than you
can imagine, and discussing what he can do for you (men's and women's
clothes) you can make an appointment with him for any time during his
visit. Usually about 30 minutes is enough. You can bring any clothing (or
pictures of styles) you'd like to have him copy; he has standard designs as
well.
I have also mentioned this to the 5th and 10th reunions so I suspect he'll
be pretty busy for the weekend. He can be contacted directly at
michzee8@hotmail.com and his shop's website is www.taktaktailor.com. I'd
recommend setting up an appointment well before you come into Cambridge.
Let me know if you have any questions.
