October 1995

Born: to Earl Williams, M.Sc. University of London, and Allyson Williams, a daughter, Naomi Burgess Williams, on December 19, 1994. Earl writes, "After a relaxing year in London following Harvard, I've been at UCLA ever since getting a Ph.D in psychology (cognitive development research with preschoolers and infants). Staring at Naomi is endlessly fascinating, but in our spare time Allyson and I plan to finish our dissertations before the year is out. I will be on Jeopardy Jan 5th or 6th in 1996. Drop me a line by mail or e-mail: UCLA Psychology Dep't, 405 Hilgard Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024; earl@psych.ucla.edu."

Austin Lin writes,"Having celebrated my first full contiguous year as a full-time, permanent (paid) employee at one company (these all being novel concepts, shattering all previous records)...I am happy to announce that the company at which I am slaving away has begun to ship its product (VideoGuide)!. So, after shopping and cooking for a couple who had triplets, interviewing prospective students for H/R admissions, almost going to law school, cooking for open houses and commencement teas at Dunster House, TF-ing various computer science classes, doing some photography, auditing half a dozen classes, working briefly in DC, learning perl, and trying to follow someone across the globe...I am now celebrating 10 years in the People's Republic of Cambridge. (still P.O. Box 700, Cambridge, MA 02238, 617/276-8719)."

Andy Balinsky writes, " I was finally allowed to quit my job. My four-year Air Force commitment ran out last month. I am now preparing for a year-long trip to Costa Rica and Central America. If anyone will be in Central America during this time, or if anyone knows of anything interesting to do or see, let me know. I already have a coffee plantation to visit thanks to classmate Carter Vincent. Now if I can just make a living out of travelling, playing international folk dance music, and using computers to save the world's environment, I'll be set. I guess I have a whole year to figure out how to do that."

Corey Miller moved to Chicago this summer, where he is working in Motorola's speech processing lab. He wrote, "I am still a Ph.D. candidate in the University of Pennsylvania's linguistics department. Hopefully the relationship between my job and my graduate work will produce a degree in the not too distant future. If any of you live in this area, please let me know about any local Harvard events." Corey can be reached by e-mail "corey_miller@email.mot.com" or Home: (312) 649-9780 Office: (708) 538-953.

Bonnie Huang and Tom Matheson were married on a bridge next to a waterfall in Salt Lake City on August 19th. The Harvard contingent among the guests included Mischa Frusztajer, Anne Gammons, Ben Kahrl, Seth Karp, Mei Lin Kwan-Gett, Nancy Levenson, Carl Rosin, Tomomi Kumagai '90, Ming Lo '86, and Jim Matheson '82. Bonnie is currently executive producer at KABC-TV News in Los Angeles. Tom is finishing up his PhD in astronomy at Berkeley. He is currently working at Caltech as a 'visiting graduate student.' Bonnie and Tom can be reached at 8380 Waring Avenue #102, Los Angeles, CA 90069, (213) 658-8341, or through Tom's e-mail matheson@salmo.berkeley.edu. "Vistors are greatly encouraged to come join in our merriment."

Sarah Busse entered the University of Chicago PhD program in Sociology this fall. She notes, "I realize that I'm starting a PhD program after several of you have finished, but hey, better late than never."

Bob Chapski recently attended the wedding of David Bahr '89 and Eve Passerini. David received his PhD in geology at the University of Colorado in 1993 and currently works for the university as a postdoctoral fellow. Eve is finishing up her PhD in sociology at the University of Colorado. David and Eve were married in a (very) informal outdoor ceremony at their home in Boulder, Colorado, amidst the splendor of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Despite the clouds, it did not rain on their celebration and the accompanying feast. The couple will spend their honeymoon backpacking in the Sierras and travelling abroad. Also in attendance were Liz Allard Kodner '89, Chuck Kodner '89, Arthur Pugsley '90, and Gillian Salton ('91?).

Chris Moore recently posted the following message on the class e-mail list: "I have been working in Hollywood since graduation. Two years ago I quit my job as an agent and partnered up with two other '89ers, David Riccardi and David Goldberg and we began working on two projects, a feature film entitled LAST CALL and a CD-ROM magazine entitled LAUNCH. Both of these endeavors have been a great deal of fun and quite educational. If we are lucky, they might even pay some bills. You can find LAUNCH at any COMP USA or music store. Support your classmates. When the movie hits the theaters please go see it as well...It has been great working with my classmates and for ourselves. I would encourage any of you to try something on your own. Our class alone is a great resource, from contacts, expertise, right down to investment capital. On the personal side, I have been living with my girlfriend for the past three years in Venice CA. We have a little puppy named MOO. If anyone is considering Hollywood as a career or is just curious, please feel free to E-Mail me or whatever. Lastly, if there are any Harvard Lacrosse players or lacrosse players in general living in Southern California please write me if you're interested in playing."

Lynley Ogilvie ('88-'89) married Richard Russell (Yale '88) on September 3, 1995. Among the guests were Eric Davis '89, George Eberstadt '88-'89, and Grace Won '89. Maria Montes and Norton Quincy Sloan III '89 were members of the wedding party. Lynley just graduated from law school and will be working at a law firm in D.C. Richard works on Capitol Hill.
