Carina Rotsztain writes, "I have been working in the Silicon Valley for the last three years after HBS and loving it. I have my own consulting firm specializing in building Internet businesses and have had a chance to work with some of the biggies in the field (eg. Alta Vista.) Everyone here breathes, eats, drinks, and sleeps high tech and it is easy to become absolutely absorbed in it. I just bought a very cute 103 year old cottage in downtown Palo Alto and am busy painting its white picket fence and pruning the exotic plants in the backyard." Anton Schwartz has announced a career change. "After five years of a doctorate in AI at Stanford, I realized I needed to play music. For the past year I've been working as a jazz saxophonist in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's been a blast. I haven't officially burned any academic bridges but I plan to do music full-time for the indefinite future. I'm performing most nights, leading groups at the jazz clubs around San Francisco, Berkeley, and Palo Alto. If you're in the area and you want to check out some happnin' music, please drop by--and say 'hi'! I keep an up-to-date listing of my schedule at my web site http://imservice.com/jazzwhich also contains sound clips. I never really considered doing music because I never really thought it was possible. Only when I was thoroughly burned out on what I was doing, and it was obvious that I needed to make some sort of big change, did it occur to me to give it a try. If I had thought I could make a living at jazz, I wonder whether I wouldn't have decided to do it years ago. It's amazing how things can fall into place when you're doing something you love." Anton can be reached at: (415)994-9230 or by email: anton@cs.stanford.edu

I've now decided to join the real world ranks before committing to the Ivory Tower: I'm heading back to McKinsey in New York. Craig Mallery, my husband, thought he'd change careers too -- from corporate law to broadcast journalism. He just started as a production assistant at Microsoft NBC, a new 24-hour cable news channel aimed at the hipper, younger generation. Would love to hear from classmates in the NY area. Our temp address: 179 East 79th St, NY , NY 10021. (212) 535-9617."
